Football Recap: Leland Falls to Leigh in First Game of Season

Leland unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 41-15 to the Leigh Longhorns on Friday. The Chargers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.

Leading Leigh to victory were Blake Zanger and Miles Huntington. Zanger rushed for 170 yards and two TDs on only ten carries, while Huntington gained 144 total yards and two touchdowns. What's more, Huntington racked up 58 receiving yards, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Charlie Lyon, who threw for 218 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 10.9 yards per attempt.

Coming up, Leland is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Pioneer at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Leigh, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Alisal at 7:15 p.m.
