Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Kahili Paulino and Malaya Baker

Liberty was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 34-32 heartbreaker at the hands of the JW North Huskies. The Bison lost against the Huskies in their previous head to head back in December of 2023, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-24 score last time.

Liberty's loss came despite strong showings from Malaya Baker and Kahili Paulino. Baker almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine rebounds, while Paulino posted six points and six steals. The dominant performance also gave Baker a new career-high in steals (six).

JW North's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brijanae Ward, who put up seven points in addition to nine boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Marisol Blanco, who had four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Liberty's record is now 4-11. As for JW North, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-13.

Liberty has already played their next game (against Hemet), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. JW North has also has no score uploaded for their next matchup, this one against Canyon Springs.
