Football Game Preview: Montgomery Bears vs. Dayton Broncos

For the first time this season, Montgomery will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and the Dayton Broncos will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Montgomery's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed two weeks ago. They breezed past Elgin to the tune of 48-0. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly 48 points.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Montgomery's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Bryson Havard, Braxden Havard, and Lance Ehlers, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Dayton strolled into their game two weeks ago with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Porter 35-14.

Montgomery better keep an eye on Jerry Prieto Jr. He was instrumental in Dayton's win, rushing for 131 yards and two scores on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 129 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Those 131 rushing yards gave Prieto Jr a new career-high.

Dayton's record is now 3-0. As for Montgomery, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Everything came up roses for Montgomery against Dayton in their previous matchup back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 47-14 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
