Basketball Recap: Design Tech Dragons vs. Summit Shasta Black Bears
After flying high against Basis Independent Silicon Valley last Friday, Design Tech came back down to earth. The Design Tech Dragons were beaten by the Summit Shasta Black Bears 70-37 on Tuesday. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Black Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 66-21 back in January.
Despite the defeat, Design Tech had strong showings from Emerson 'Emi' LaPedis, who posted 15 points and six boards, and Vanessa Chow, who put up 13 points and seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Design Tech smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.
Niesha Ramirez was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 31 points and 23 boards for Summit Shasta. Ramirez's evening made it 16 games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Chloe Macario, who had 13 points.
Design Tech's record now sits at 12-6. As for Summit Shasta, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-5.
Design Tech has already played their next contest, a 53-23 victory against Pacific Bay Christian on the 12th. Summit Shasta will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Eastside College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on February 25th.
