Basketball Recap: San Joaquin Memorial Starts off Right with Win over Bakersfield

San Joaquin Memorial took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Wednesday. They blew past the Bakersfield Drillers 77-54. That's more bragging rights for the Panthers, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Kade Johnson and Ryze Niles certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Johnson went 9-for-20 on his way to 22 points and seven boards, while Niles shot 88% from the field en route to 16 points and five rebounds. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Jaythan Rivera, who posted nine points.

Looking ahead, San Joaquin Memorial will take on North at 3:45 p.m. on the 29th. As for Bakersfield, they will square off against Fairfax on Saturday.
