Softball Game Preview: Eaton Reds vs. Platte Valley Broncos

Eaton is a perfect 10-0 against Platte Valley since September of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Reds will be playing at home against the Broncos at 11:00 a.m. Eaton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Eaton fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against University on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 8-7. The Reds' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Bria Foster was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Johanna Galvan and Emma Anderson stepped up to the plate in a big way. Galvan went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Anderson went 2-for-3 with five stolen bases and two runs. Anderson is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Paige Hofer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Platte Valley came up short against Resurrection Christian on Thursday, falling 15-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Broncos in their meetings with the Cougars: they've now lost four in a row.

Landree Edstrom led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Platte Valley's loss dropped their record down to 10-10. As for Eaton, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 16-4.

Everything went Eaton's way against Platte Valley in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as Eaton made off with an 18-0 win. Do the Reds have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Broncos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
