Basketball Recap: Moorpark's Loss Ends Six-Game Winning Streak at Home

Moorpark entered their match against Leuzinger on Thursday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Moorpark Musketeers fell 61-54 to the Leuzinger Olympians. The Musketeers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Moorpark saw an underclassman step up: freshman Maya Urteaga posted 27 points along with six rebounds and five assists. That was a full 50% of Moorpark's points, marking the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Olivas, who had six points.

Even though they lost, Moorpark was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Leuzinger was led to victory by Tatyana Aubry and Brianna Ike. Aubry went 8 of 20 on her way to 25 points along with eight assists and five steals, while Ike dropped a double-double on 23 points and 11 boards. The game was Ike's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sovereign Woods, who put up nine points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Moorpark's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-4. As for Leuzinger, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-8.

Moorpark wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-38 win against Viewpoint on the 3rd. As for Leuzinger, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 61-47 victory against Legacy on the 3rd.
