Baseball Recap: Heritage Takes a Loss

Heritage extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 9-15. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Grovetown Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-14 on Tuesday.

Heritage saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Copeland, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

As for Grovetown, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games.

On Grovetown's side, Brodie Combs made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). Combs has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Grovetown beat Heritage by a score of 12-2 later that day.
