Niwot had to kick off their season on the road on Wednesday, but they showed no ill effects. They snuck past the Greeley Central Wildcats with a 47-41 win. For the Cougars, this counts as revenge for the 39-34 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2021.
Emmett Verhoogen was the offensive standout of the matchup as he shot 63% from the field en route to 14 points. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in assists (four). Jake Gardner was another key player, putting up eight points and five boards.
Niwot was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greeley Central only posted three.
Despite the loss, Greeley Central still got an impressive performance from Espoir Sylvere, who went 8-for-17 on his way to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Dominic Salazar, who posted four points and nine boards.
Niwot didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-61 loss against DSST: Conservatory Green on the 5th. As for Greeley Central, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 62-60 win against Pomona on the 5th.
