Basketball Recap: Veritas Academy Takes a Loss

If Veritas Academy was feeling good fresh off their 74-7 takedown of Coventry Christian last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Veritas Academy Monarch took a 55-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Linville Hill Warriors on Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Monarch in their matchups with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Linville Hill's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Payton Smucker, who went 6 of 14 on her way to 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Smucker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Rishel, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards.

Veritas Academy's loss dropped their record down to 8-3. As for Linville Hill, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1.

Veritas Academy will host Covenant Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Linville Hill, they will head out to square off against Lancaster County Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
