There's no place like home for Burke County, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Thomson Bulldogs 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Bears have posted since September 16, 2024.

Leigha Boynton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Madeleigh James was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Serenity Howard, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Burke County is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Thomson, they moved to 9-8 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Burke County will welcome Academy of Richmond County at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Thomson, they will take on Lincoln County at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red Devils have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season.
