Baseball Game Preview: McKinley Red Dragons vs. Conneaut Spartans

The McKinley Red Dragons will be taking part in a tournament against the Conneaut Spartans at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Conneaut took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on McKinley, who comes in off a win.

Having struggled with ten defeats in a row, McKinley turned things around against Liberty on Thursday. They blew past the Leopards 15-7. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Red Dragons' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Vincent Dennis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 4.1 innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. McKinley is 2-1 when Dennis posts two or more runs, but 3-16 otherwise.

In other batting news, McKinley got a big performance out of Brixton Gilmour, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs. Gilmour is becoming a predictor of the Red Dragons' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-16 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Court, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

McKinley lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 17 runs the game before, Conneaut was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Harding. The Spartans' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

McKinley's victory bumped their record up to 5-17. As for Conneaut, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-16-1.
