Football Game Preview: Eastwood Troopers vs. Montwood Rams

Two dominant signal callers in Kingston Jeffries and Damian Briano are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Eastwood Troopers will welcome the Montwood Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastwood has eight straight wins, Montwood has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, Eastwood earned a 36-26 victory over Coronado. Given the Troopers' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Thunderbirds are ranked 609th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Nathanael Chavira had a dynamite game, rushing for 59 yards and three TDs. Jude Walker made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Eastwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jordan Nava, Walker, and Matthew Yarbrough picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Coronado's side was Andrew Cintron, who picked up two sacks and made nine total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, Montwood came up short against Coronado last Friday and fell 48-35.

Eastwood will need to focus on slowing down Adrian Cortinas, one of several Montwood players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 126 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns. Cortinas has been hot, having also posted two or more receiving touchdowns the last five times he's played. Another player making a difference was Miguel Esqueda, who picked up 106 receiving yards and one score.

Eastwood's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Montwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.
