Basketball Recap: Center Takes a Loss

Center lost against Colfax back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Center Cougars were dealt a 78-26 defeat at the hands of the Colfax Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1021st, while the Falcons are ranked 105th).

Despite the loss, Center still got an impressive performance from Reniaya Applin, who posted eight points. Applin has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last seven times she's played. Aleena Castellanos was another key player, putting up eight points.

Colfax was led to victory by Juliette James and Madalyn Sigrist. James dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 boards, while Sigrist went 11 for 21 on her way to 27 points. James continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Belle Chu, who put up eight points and five steals.

Center's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-17. As for Colfax, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Center will head out to face off against Mira Loma at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Center is facing Mira Loma at the right time seeing as Mira Loma is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Colfax, they will venture away from home to square off against Oakmont at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Colfax is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.1 points per game this season.
