Soccer Recap: Salem Takes a Loss

If Salem was riding high fresh off their 6-1 takedown of Columbia last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Salem Seminoles came up short against the Monroe Area Purple Hurricanes on Tuesday, falling 9-0. While losing is never fun, the Seminoles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 266th, while the Purple Hurricanes are ranked 130th).

Salem moved to 3-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 14 goals over those three matches. As for Monroe Area, they pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Salem will face off against Miller Grove at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salem has given up an average of 5.7 goals per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. As for Monroe Area, they will take on Cherokee Bluff at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Monroe Area is facing Cherokee Bluff at the right time seeing as Cherokee Bluff is stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
