Basketball Recap: Calon Shumpert's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Itawamba Agricultural over Alcorn Central

Itawamba Agricultural was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 47-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Alcorn Central Bears. If the Indians were looking for revenge after losing 42-34 to the Bears when the teams met back in December of 2015, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Several Indians players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Calon Shumpert, who shot 42% from the field to rack up 12 points. Another player making a difference was Jonathan Holliday, who posted eight points.

Itawamba Agricultural's defeat dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Alcorn Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-2 record this season.

Itawamba Agricultural will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Belmont at 5:00 p.m. As for Alcorn Central, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-52 loss against Wayne County on the 29th.
