Softball Recap: Air Academy Wins Going Away Against Discovery Canyon

Air Academy had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Discovery Canyon on Monday. The Kadets put the hurt on the Thunder with a sharp 10-2 victory. Considering the Kadets have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Bailey Williams made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Williams was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Keira Finkle was incredible, going 4-for-5 with four runs, two doubles, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted since September 3rd. Alex Finkle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one double.

Air Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .400 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Air Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-3-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Discovery Canyon, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Air Academy will be playing at home against Cheyenne Mountain at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Kadets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Red-Tailed Hawks have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season. As for Discovery Canyon, they will square off against Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
