Football Game Preview: York Cougars vs. South Pointe Stallions

York is 0-10 against South Pointe since September of 2015 but things could change on Thursday. The Cougars will square off against the Stallions at 7:30 p.m.

York is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against A.C. Flora last Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Cougars lost 27-6 to the Falcons. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 98th, while the Falcons are ranked 24th).

Despite the loss, York had strong showings from Tamir Thrower, who picked up 72 receiving yards and one score, and Tayshon Freeman, who threw for 104 yards and one touchdown.

Meanwhile, South Pointe came tearing into Friday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 13 points), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Bulldogs 28-7. Considering the Stallions have won three matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

York's defeat dropped their record down to 2-4. As for South Pointe, their win bumped their record up to 5-1.

York was dealt a bruising 42-0 loss at the hands of South Pointe when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Cougars, Mason Pickett-Hicks (who rushed for 240 yards and a pair of TDs on only 12 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
