Football Game Preview: Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears vs. Lumberton Raiders

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears are taking a road trip to face off against the Lumberton Raiders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Hargrave just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 35-28 to the Falcons. While the Bears had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Falcons 14-0.

Despite their defeat, Little Cypress-Mauriceville saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. J'Lynn Morris, who rushed for 114 yards and one TD, was perhaps the best of all. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakson Struwe, who threw for 134 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Lumberton waltzed into their matchup on Friday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They were the clear victors by a 58-34 margin over the Lions. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won four games by 23 points or more so far this season.

Lumberton's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Little Cypress-Mauriceville, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville was able to grind out a solid victory over Lumberton when the teams last played back in November of 2024, winning 35-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bears since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
