Soccer Game Preview: Sonora vs. Sunny Hills

The Sonora Raiders will square off against the Sunny Hills Lancers at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sonora comes in on four and Sunny Hills on six.

Sunny Hills better have a healthy lead at halftime, because if last week is any indication, that's when Sonora really get things going. Everything went Sonora's way against El Modena on Thursday as Sonora made off with a 5-1 win. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 38th, while the Vanguards are ranked 757th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Sunny Hills kept a clean sheet against El Modena on Tuesday. They blew past the Vanguards 5-0. Give the Lancers' defense some credit: that's the team's sixth straight shutout.

Sunny Hills has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 13-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those eight games. As for Sonora, they pushed their record up to 13-2-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
