Softball Recap: Gridley Triumphs

While Gridley's victory against Live Oak wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 12-10 win over the Lions on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Bulldogs have posted against the Lions since March 3, 2020.

Kaydenze Pruitt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off three hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

In other batting news, Delanie Cloyd and Alexis Alcantar did most of the damage at the plate: Cloyd went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs, while Alcantar went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs Alcantar has posted since back in May of 2025. Ava Campos was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and one run.

Gridley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only posted a batting average of .097.

Gridley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. As for Live Oak, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-8.

Coming up, Gridley will square off against Corning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.5 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Live Oak, they will take on Oroville at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
