Football Recap: St. James Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mayer Lutheran

St. James had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 5-2 to make it five. They strolled past the Mayer Lutheran Crusaders with points to spare, taking the game 41-27. The Saints' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

As for Mayer Lutheran, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-3. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for they, who until this contest were averaging 13.57 points allowed.

Mayer Lutheran lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Gabriel Shimanski, who threw for 182 yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 51 yards on only six carries. A healthy portion of Shimanski's aerial production (93 yards to be exact) went to Wyatt Sunde, who also brought in two receiving touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Mayer Lutheran will face off against rival Lester Prairie/Holy Trinity at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Crusaders 13.6, the Bulldogs 11.4) so any points scored will be well earned.
