Basketball Recap: South Takes a Loss

South suffered their closest defeat since February 10, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Torrance Tartars by a score of 49-46. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Spartans came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 135th, while the Tartars are ranked 279th).

South's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 11-8. As for Torrance, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-9.

When South and Torrance next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. South will try to stop El Segundo's four-game winning streak when the meet at 5:30 p.m. on January 17th. Meanwhile, Torrance will challenge La Quinta and their five-game winning streak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
