Baseball Recap: Pioneer Takes a Loss

Pioneer had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped down to 4-14 to make it five. They fell just short of the Winamac Warriors by a score of 5-3. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in May of 2025.

Lane Weldy made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Gabe Scott was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

As for Winamac, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since April 21st.

On Winamac's side, Cody Wheeler made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Wheeler also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Winamac is 3-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise. Wheeler was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2025.

In other batting news, Xavier Adriano was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Charles Cottrell, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Winamac beat Pioneer by a score of 17-13 later that day.
