Washington hadn't done well against American recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Washington Huskies came out on top against the American Eagles by a score of 59-51. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 55-40 back in January.

Despite the loss, American saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Shirina Shi went 8-for-16 on her way to 22 points. That was a full 43.1% of American's points, marking the 15th time in a row Shi has posted more than a third of the team's points. Leann Wang was another key player, putting up seven points and 13 rebounds.

Washington has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 17-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points over those games. As for American, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-5.

Washington didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-43 win against King's Academy on the 10th. As for American, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 57-38 loss against Moreau Catholic on the 12th.
