Basketball Recap: Torres Takes a Loss

Torres has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-39 heartbreaker at the hands of the Sanger Apaches. The Toros were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Apaches earlier this season, when they won 46-27.

When it comes to explaining why Torres lost on Tuesday, don't look at JLynn Mitchell. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine boards. What's more, Mitchell also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ariana Garcia, who posted three points and 17 rebounds.

Sanger got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Lucy Takeda out in front who had six points along with six boards and five assists. Takeda is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Ashley Robles was another key player, putting up eight points.

Torres' defeat dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Sanger, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 14-12.

Torres has already played their next contest, a 42-24 victory against Edison on the 6th. As for Sanger, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 52-34 loss against Hoover on the 6th.
