Volleyball Recap: Gregory-Portland's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

After a string of five wins, Gregory-Portland's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 2-0 to the Seguin Matadors. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Matadors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.

While Gregory-Portland had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-21.

Despite the defeat, Gregory-Portland had strong showings from Sophia Davila, who had 12 digs, and Alice Brown, who had four digs and one block. Mckenna Irwin also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Mia Hernandez was the offensive standout of the matchup as she had nine digs and one assist.

Gregory-Portland's loss dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Seguin, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gregory-Portland will face off against Carroll at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Seguin, they will challenge Lanier at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
