Preview: Cate Rams vs. Bishop Diego Cardinals
Cate and Bishop Diego are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Cate Rams will head out on the road to take on the Bishop Diego Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cate is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
Cate posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Clara and snuck past 31-29. The score was all tied up 12-12 at the break, but Cate was the better team in the second half.
Meanwhile, Bishop Diego earned a 45-32 victory over Santa Clara on Thursday. Given Bishop Diego's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Santa Clara is ranked 1096th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Diego's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diana Mendez, who scored 11 points. Mendez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jiali Coronado, who scored 12 points.
Cate's record now sits at 7-5. As for Bishop Diego, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which somehow isn't as good as their 18-4 record this season.
Cate ended up a good deal behind Bishop Diego when the teams last played last Saturday, losing 34-18. Can Cate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
