Basketball Recap: Aptos Comes Up Short

Aptos suffered their biggest loss since December 26, 2024 on Thursday. They were dealt a 51-24 defeat at the hands of the Santa Cruz Cardinals. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mariners this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 58-56 two weeks ago.

When it comes to explaining why Aptos lost, don't look at Berkeley Ashby. Despite the final result, she posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Ashby is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played.

Aptos' loss dropped their record down to 13-10. As for Santa Cruz, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Aptos and Santa Cruz should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Aptos (ranked 529th) will meet Harbor (ranked 1169th) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Santa Cruz will challenge San Lorenzo Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday up 458 places (436 vs. 894).
