Soccer Game Preview: Woodside vs. Aragon

The Woodside Wildcats will face off against the Aragon Dons at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Woodside will be strutting in after a win while Aragon will be coming in after a loss.

Woodside's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over Hillsdale. Considering the Wildcats have won three games by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Woodside used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Hillsdale. Emma Downing played for 80 minutes having averaged 56 this season and Lilly Lyssand got 70 vs. an average of 35.8. The pair took full advantage of the opportunity: Downing put up one assist, while she put up one assist.

Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Aragon's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Menlo-Atherton by a score of 3-2. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Dons came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Bears are ranked 356th).

Sierra Troy and Emi Lo scored both of Aragon's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 11 goals.

Aragon's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Woodside, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2-2.

Woodside came out on top in a nail-biter against Aragon in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, sneaking past 1-0. Will Woodside repeat their success, or does Aragon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
