Basketball Recap: Taylor Morris' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Penn Wood over Abington

After flying high against Murrell Dobbins Vo-Tech last Friday, Penn Wood came back down to earth. The Penn Wood Patriots took a 52-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Abington Galloping Ghosts on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Galloping Ghosts are ranked 189th).

Penn Wood's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Taylor Morris, who almost dropped a double-double on 14 points and nine boards. Morris has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times she's played. Elisia Lawrence was another key player, putting up 12 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Even though they lost, Penn Wood smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Penn Wood's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Abington, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 6-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Penn Wood will take on Chester at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Abington, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Neshaminy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
