Basketball Game Preview: Chavez Titans vs. Rosamond Roadrunners

The Chavez Titans are taking a road trip to face off against the Rosamond Roadrunners at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Last Tuesday, Chavez humbled Kennedy with a 65-26 victory. The win continues a trend for the Titans in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won nine in a row.

Chavez found their leader in freshman Sarah Diaz, who posted 23 points. Those 23 points gave Diaz a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Madyson Herrera, who put up ten points.

Meanwhile, Rosamond had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Scorpions 62-35. That's two games straight that the Roadrunners have won by exactly 27 points.

Rosamond's win came from a few key players Chavez will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Ambrie Renteria, who had 16 points and seven rebounds. The matchup was her third in a row with at least 16 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nadiyah Baladez, who earned ten points and seven steals.

Rosamond smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Rosamond's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-7. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.2 points over those games. As for Chavez, their record now sits at 10-12.

Chavez came up short against Rosamond when the teams last played back in December of 2017, falling 47-43. Can Chavez avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
