Even if it wasn't a dominant performance, the Estrella Foothills Wolves beat the Shadow Mountain Matadors 18-14 on Thursday.

A big part of Estrella Foothills' victory came down to the chemistry between Katelyn Bons and her top target Layla Fackrell. Bons threw for 123 yards and one touchdown while Fackrell picked up 86 receiving yards and one score. Fackrell showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 56 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Estrella Foothills' defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Aiyana Alexander, Nevaeh Rosado, and Kayla McCorry, who each picked up one sack apiece. Bree Dilley was another major factor on D, making 11 total tackles and defending three passes.

Despite the defeat, Shadow Mountain saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Emma Weed threw for 109 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 73.3% of her passes.

Estrella Foothills' win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Shadow Mountain, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Estrella Foothills has already played their next contest, a 23-12 defeat against Lee Williams on the 23rd. As for Shadow Mountain, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 34-0 loss against ALA - Gilbert North on the 25th.
