Basketball Game Preview: Francis Parker Lancers vs. La Jolla Country Day Torreys

The Francis Parker Lancers will take on the La Jolla Country Day Torreys at 6:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

La Jolla Country Day will be up against a hot Francis Parker team: the squad just extended their winning streak to six. Francis Parker simply couldn't be stopped on Wednesday as they easily beat St. Joseph Academy 65-29. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Crusaders are ranked 393rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, La Jolla Country Day waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 60-37 victory. The Torreys have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 12 matchups by 22 points or more this season.

Francis Parker better focus on containing Mei-Ling Perry and Safiyah Sugapong as the pair were huge in La Jolla Country Day's win. Perry dropped a double-double with 26 points and 11 boards, while Sugapong went 7-for-8 from beyond the arc on her way to 23 points and three steals. Sugapong has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Atlanta Bass-Sulpizio was another key player, putting up seven points and five rebounds.

La Jolla Country Day smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

La Jolla Country Day's win bumped their record up to 16-9. As for Francis Parker, they pushed their record up to 17-8 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
