The Seckman Jaguars will face off against the Festus Tigers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Seckman will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Parkway North on Monday. The Jaguars blew past the Vikings 15-5. With that win, the Jaguars brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.
Molly Sullivan made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Payton Bantle was incredible, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in October of 2024. Another player making a difference was Anna Rager, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Festus had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it ten on Monday. They never let the Pirates get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. Give the Tigers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
The result came thanks to Aubrey Doyle's shutout, as she gave up just three hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keeleigh Hankins, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Oberle, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Festus was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Seckman's win bumped their record up to 10-7. As for Festus, their victory bumped their record up to 12-2.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Seckman hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .365. However, it's not like Festus struggles in that department as they've averaged .346. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Seckman came out on top in a nail-biter against Festus in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Jaguars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tigers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
