Houlton extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 21 on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-11. They came up short against the Presque Isle Wildcats, falling 16-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 23-0 last Monday.
Houlton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trenton Soucy, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That hit marked the first that Soucy has got this season.
As for Presque Isle, their win bumped their record up to 5-8. Considering their hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
On Presque Isle's side, Lane Carmichael and Trenten Mastro made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Carmichael tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Mastro tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). At bat, Carmichael went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while Mastro went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Oliver Woollard was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Ellis, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Coincidentally, Houlton and Presque Isle will both be playing Caribou the next time they take the field. The Shiretowners will head out to face the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Wildcats will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
