Perennial powerhouses and up-and-comers dot our cross-country look.

The high school volleyball season is underway or getting ready to toss up the first serve across the country. Earlier this week, MaxPreps highlighted the top high school volleyball player in each state. We continue our cross-country look by identifying the top team in each state.

There are state champions looking to add another banner to the gym, runners-up looking to avenge last year's defeat and teams who gained experience last season and now look to put it all together. Read on to find out who received the nod in your state.
Alabama — McGill-Toolen (Mobile)
Last season: 45-9, Class 7A champion
Player of the Year Paris McQuirter graduated, but junior setter Alice Wood (1,431 assists) and senior hitter Cat McClain (380 kills) each are back after a successful club season together. Cami Huff will be a presence in the middle and coach Kate Wood said the early emphasis will be on defense.

Alaska — South Anchorage (Anchorage)
Last season: 34-12-3, Class 4A runner-up
The Wolverines return leading hitter in Indy Kmet (407 kills), setter Ellie Kleven (1,200 assists) and all-around Jessica Gieser (726 serve receptions, 564 digs) back after falling in a one-set superset to determine the state champion.

Arizona — Xavier College Prep (Phoenix)
Last season: 32-4, Class 6A state champion
A host of talent from last year's title team returns, including Tessa Larkin (474 kills) and UCLA commit Vivian Hickman (539 assists, 234 kills). Additionally, Xavier brings back Wake Forest commit Mattea Saunders at libero and Villanova commit Selah O'Connor at setter. They're testing themselves at Nike TOC and Durango before their repeat quest.

Arkansas — Fayetteville
Last season: 21-8, Class 6A semifinalist
The Bulldogs didn't win the state title for the first time in four seasons in 2024, but look to have the pieces to make a run at their ninth crown this year. All-arounds Piper Batie (378 serve receptions, 377 assists, 265 kills, 248 digs, 50 aces) and sophomore Molly Miller (552 assists, 261 digs, 173 serve receptions, 160 kills, 45 blocks, 44 aces) will be stalwarts for coach Jessica Phelan.

California — Mater Dei (Santa Ana)
Last season: 37-5, Southern California Open regional finalist
Like Texas, Indiana and a handful of other states, there are a host of teams that want to and could lay claim to this title. But the Monarchs' returning depth and transfer additions give them the nod early. Layli Ostovar, Westley Matavao, Addison Coady and Emma Kingston will provide the offense along with transfer setter Kalea Lee from Cathedral Catholic and Sam Capinpin. Libero Lizzy Robinson (Oregon commit) transferred from Florida and only adds to Dan O'Dell's powerhouse.

Last season: 28-1, Class 5A state champion
Losing multiple time MaxPreps All-American Chloe Elarton to graduation is a big hole, but the Eagles returners Bergan Waitman at outside hitter and middle Teagan Beuhler provide some leadership. Junior setter Piper McFadden could step into the setter's void left by Elarton.

Connecticut — Glastonbury
Last season: 23-7-1, Class LL state runner-up
The Guardians took 20-time state champion Darien to five sets last season and return McKenna Reynolds, who posted 906 assists, 297 digs, 116 kills, 72 aces and 30 blocks. Reese Henderson is also back after leading the team with 389 kills.

Delaware — Tower Hill (Wilmington)
Last season: 19-1, state champion
The Hillers not only return junior setter Parker Lewicki (580 assists) but top hitter junior Sydney Fischer (303 kills) as well as senior libero Lily Leung.

District of Columbia — Georgetown Day
Last season: 25-1, DCSAA champion
A third straight title was bagged last season, but coach Brandon Weist said this Mighty Grasshopper squad could be even better. Losing hitters Jada Asku and Zoe Ryu is big, but setter Caycee Chhum will have a number of hitters to find including Tessa Ferguson, Fiona McDermott, Gigi Wigglesworth and Zora Dimbo.

Florida — Winter Park
Last season: 28-1, Class 7A state champion
The loss of setter Tyler Peluso leaves a void, but the Wildcats will rely on the arms of junior Texas A&M commit Isabel Incinelli (202 kills) and Appalachian State commit Amelia Mancino (307 kills). Paige Lehman and Isabel Bertelsen will handle the defensive duties.

Georgia — Pace Academy (Atlanta)
Last season: 43-6, Class AAAA state champion
The Peach State is stacked with talented teams, but Pace Academy comes into the 2025 season on the heels of its eighth straight title and the Knights have the entire squad back. Led by Virginia commit Olivia Siskin and Brown pledge Lawson Monroe, Pace Academy should be in the mix for No. 9 in a row.

Hawaii — 'Iolani (Honolulu)
Last season: 24-10, Division 1 state runner-up
The Raiders lost to Kamehameha Kapalama in the finals despite owning a 5-2 record against the Warriors for the season. Still 'Iolani returns Taimane Ainu'u after a sensational season with 273 kills and MaxPreps Freshman All-America honors. Add in junior hitters Poema Klama-Kingma and USC beach commit Georgie Lee along with setter Bailey Nakanelua and the Raiders will be in the hunt for their fifth state title.

Idaho — Skyview (Nampa)
Last season: 27-8, Class 6A state runner-up
It starts with Kentucky commit Bellamie Beus (595 kills) for the Hawks, but the depth includes libero Lizzy Bower (455 digs) and hitters Berkleigh Minnick (317 kills) and Jill Deatherage (222 kills). Skyview looks for a setter as foreign exchange student Nina Ferraro moved back to Brazil.

Illinois — Mother McAuley (Chicago)
Last season: 33-5, Class 4A sectional finalists
The 4A talent pool in the Land of Lincoln is as deep as anywhere with the Mighty Macs, Benet Academy and reigning state champion Marist leading the field. McAuley gets the nod as it returns MaxPreps All-American Peyton Heatherly, Clemson commit Lucy Maloney at libero and sisters Cayla Prohaska and Jayce Prohaska.

Indiana — Roncalli (Indianapolis)
Last season: 35-0, Class 3A state champion
Kansas commit Logan Bell graduated, but the Royals have plenty in the cupboard starting with Mizzou commit Lydia Stahley (394 kills). West Virginia commit Reagan Turk is back at libero (311 digs) and Xavier commit Addie Haberthy will dish up the offense after 937 assists last year.

Iowa — Pleasant Valley
Last season: 35-2, Class 5A state champion
The Spartans haven't finished worse than third at the state tournament since 2019. They return leading hitter Isabelle Kremer (348 kills), setter Carsyn Kelley (483 assists) and hitters Maren Ouellette and Mazie Sweers.

Kentucky — Assumption (Louisville)

Losing key cogs Bailey Blair, Kristen Simon and Emilee Fuller might be a death knell for a program, but the Rockets simply reload after their 24th state title. Emily Keiran, Jillian Bohannnon, Ella Askin, Iris Williams, Kathryn O'Toole, Carle Hooe and Madelyn Faulkner all carry Ron Kordes' program into the future.

Louisiana — Slidell
Last season: 40-4, Division I state champion

Maryland — Richard Montgomery (Rockville)
Last season: 24-1, Class 4A state champion
