Softball Recap: Lincoln East Wins Going Away Against Grand Island

Lincoln East won the last time they faced Grand Island and things went their way on Saturday too. The Spartans blew past the Islanders 9-1. Considering the Spartans have won 11 contests by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Tessa Berner tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Lincoln East let Kallee Hemry and Chesney Haydon run wild. Hemry went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Haydon went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Hemry has posted since back in August. The team also got some help courtesy of Lucy Barrett, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Lincoln East hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in three consecutive matchups.

Lincoln East's victory bumped their record up to 16-11. As for Grand Island, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-15.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lincoln East will face off against Millard West at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wildcats will roll in looking for their eighth straight win, something the Spartans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Grand Island, they will welcome North Platte on Monday.
