Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Charter Starts off Right with Win over Central Carolina Academy

Cornerstone Charter gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They claimed a resounding 47-3 victory over the Central Carolina Academy Eagles. The Cardinals not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since January 10th (when they won 58-7).

Cornerstone Charter was led to victory by Maloree Walthaw and Grayson Smith. Walthaw went 9-for-18 en route to 20 points and five rebounds, while Smith posted 13 points in addition to six boards and four blocks. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in steals (two). Haven Becker was another key player, putting up ten points.

Central Carolina Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Coming up, Cornerstone Charter will be playing at home against Chatham Charter at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Central Carolina Academy, they are taking a road trip to challenge Chatham Central at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
