Baseball Recap: Sparta Comes Up Short

Tri County Area hit Sparta with a five-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell just short of the Vikings by a score of 10-9. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 5-4.

Ashton Bitely put in work while hitting and pitching. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Jericho Ross made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Brenton Mojzak, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Sparta has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost ten of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-23 record this season. As for Tri County Area, their victory bumped their record up to 9-12-1.

Looking ahead, Sparta will square off against Cedar Springs at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Tri County Area does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
