Softball Game Preview: Cedar Shoals Jaguars vs. Eastside Eagles

Cedar Shoals is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Thursday. They will head out on the road to face off against the Eastside Eagles at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Cedar Shoals will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up one run on Monday, then bounced right back against Central Gwinnett on Tuesday. The Jaguars came out on top against the Black Knights by a score of 11-8.

Gretta Garrett made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up seven earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI.

In other batting news, Kate Graichen was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Rawls, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Eastside took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Northgate a 6-0 shutout.

Cedar Shoals' first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Eastside, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-0.

Cedar Shoals might still be hurting after the 16-0 defeat they got from Eastside when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
