Baseball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Mt. Zion

Mt. Zion played against Douglass on Wednesday and won via forfeit.

Sharon Tillman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, Xavier Howard was incredible, scoring a run and stealing four bases while going 3-for-3. He has become a key player for Mt. Zion: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-5 otherwise. Christian Hurt was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-5.

The victory made it two in a row for Mt. Zion and bumps their season record up to 5-6. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games. As for Douglass, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Mt. Zion beat the Astros by a score of 11-9 on Thursday.
