Basketball Recap: Zander Whitaker Key Part of Team Effort in Jimmies Win

Jimtown won the last time they faced LaVille and things went their way on Saturday too. The Jimmies came out on top against the Lancers by a score of 52-43. Those 52 points were actually the fewest the Jimmies have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jimtown to victory, but perhaps none more so than Zander Whitaker, who posted 11 points in addition to seven rebounds and five assists. Those five assists gave Whitaker a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Will Spurgeon, who scored 17 points and five boards.

Despite the loss, LaVille still got an impressive performance from Lance Edison, who shot 55% from the field en route to 25 points and six rebounds. That was a full 58.1% of the Lancers' points, marking the fifth time in a row Edison has put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Gonzales, who earned ten points and four steals.

The victory made it two in a row for Jimtown and bumps their season record up to 4-1. As for LaVille, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Jimtown will take on NorthWood in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jimmies will need to watch out since the Panthers have now posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. LaVille and Manchester will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lancers will be up against the Squires' rather soft defense (which has allowed 69.5 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
