Basketball Recap: Aimee Schaefers Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mendocino

It was a proper cat-fight when Upper Lake took on Mendocino on Friday. The Upper Lake Cougars rang in the new year with a 43-33 win over the Mendocino Cardinals. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Cardinals, too.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Upper Lake to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aimee Schaefers, who posted seven points in addition to 13 boards and three steals. Schaefers has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Camila Martin, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten boards.

Upper Lake smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Upper Lake's record now sits at 4-5. As for Mendocino, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Upper Lake wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 43-37 victory against Clear Lake on the 4th. As for Mendocino, they will face off against Laytonville at 5:30 p.m. on January 10th.
