Basketball Recap: Modesto Takes a Loss

Modesto suffered their biggest defeat since January 25, 2024 on Friday. They were beaten by the Gregori Jaguars 61-20. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1012th, while the Jaguars are ranked 331st).

Isabella Castro was Modesto's leading scorer, having posted six points. Castro also led the team in assists with two. Bria Eastman held things down on the boards with six rebounds.

Gia Brown was the offensive standout of the game as she posted 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in field goal percentage (75%). Veronica Whitten was another key player, putting up six points in addition to six boards and three steals.

Modesto has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Gregori, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 17-9.

Modesto wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 41-34 loss against Downey on the 11th. As for Gregori, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-37 victory against Enochs on the 11th.
