Mexia won the last time they faced Groesbeck and Markaveon Boyd did his part to make sure it happened again. The Black Cats took down the Goats 32-14 on Friday with plenty of help from Boyd, who rushed for 206 yards and one TD while picking up 12.1 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 105 rushing yards per game.

Mexia didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kelan Collins and Rhylin Gowan. Another thorn in Groesbeck's side was Kash Williams, who made 14 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

Mexia's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-5. As for Groesbeck, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-4.

Mexia and Groesbeck could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Black Cats will take on West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (714 vs. 355). Meanwhile, Groesbeck (ranked 685th) will meet Grandview (ranked 277th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
