Basketball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Mission San Jose Warriors

Newark Memorial hasn't had much luck against Mission San Jose recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Newark Memorial Cougars will head out to face off against the Mission San Jose Warriors at 7:00 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Newark Memorial ended up a good deal behind James Logan and lost 43-24. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 737th, while the Colts are ranked 284th).

Newark Memorial got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Sydney Scott and Angelina Baca, who each put up seven points.

Meanwhile, Mission San Jose didn't have too much trouble with Irvington on Tuesday as they won 40-26. The team accrued 29 points in the first half and coasted on those for the win.

Mission San Jose's win came from a few key players Newark Memorial will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Patricia Wu, who posted six points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Esha Patel, who scored two points along with nine boards, three steals, and three blocks.

Newark Memorial's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Mission San Jose, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8.

Newark Memorial ended up a good deal behind Mission San Jose in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, losing 46-31. Can Newark Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
