Basketball Recap: East Nicolaus Comes Up Short

East Nicolaus and Quincy squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but East Nicolaus had to settle for second. They lost 63-40 to the Quincy Trojans. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 42-34.

When it comes to explaining why East Nicolaus lost, don't look at Rylee Gillespie. Despite the final result, she posted 15 points. Avelina Machado was another key player, putting up nine points.

Shelby Nussle was her usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 23 points and nine rebounds for Quincy. Nussle has been hot, having also posted three or more blocks the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Skylar McCarthy, who scored three points in addition to seven boards and six assists.

East Nicolaus' defeat dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Quincy, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-5.

East Nicolaus does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Quincy, they will square off against Trinity at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Trinity has won eight straight at home, while Quincy won three straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
