Soccer Game Preview: Salem vs. Heritage

Salem is 0-5 against Heritage since March of 2016 but things could change on Thursday. The Seminoles will welcome the Patriots at 7:30 p.m. Salem has given up an average of 4.6 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Salem managed to keep up with Drew Charter until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Seminoles came up short against Drew Charter, falling 6-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, Salem haven't been shut out since back in March.

Meanwhile, Heritage came tearing into Tuesday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 2 goals), and they left with even more momentum. Their defense stepped up to hand the Tigers a 1-0 shutout. The victory was all the more spectacular given Heritage's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia soccer rankings (they are ranked 115th, while Archer are ranked sixth).

Heritage pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five contests. As for Salem, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-7.
