Basketball Game Preview: Northgate Broncos vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils

Northgate has gone 8-2 against Mt. Diablo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Northgate Broncos will welcome the Mt. Diablo Red Devils at 7:00 p.m.

Northgate is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Clayton Valley Charter just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. The game between them and the Ugly Eagles didn't end well, with Northgate falling 58-43.

Despite the defeat, Northgate had strong showings from Maddison Sardelich, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Samantha Myhr, who posted 15 points and six boards. Sardelich is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 11 or more in the last seven games she's played. Another player making a difference was Hana Neuman, who had nine points.

Meanwhile, Mt. Diablo made easy work of Concord on Thursday and carried off a 53-33 win. Given the Red Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Bears are ranked 895th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Diablo's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10. As for Northgate, their loss dropped their record down to 19-6.

Northgate came up short against Mt. Diablo in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 63-53. Can Northgate avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
